Issac Delgado i Miami

Her er Diane Padro frå Salsapower sin rapport frå Issac Delgado sin konsert i Miami 23. juni 2007.

" Ok- I`ll admit it- I`m one of those long-time traditional salsa fans who occasionally listen and dance to Timba, but it`s not really my thing, so i`m probably one of the contributing reasons why this style of cuban music has not really hit it big in this country. And true to my Puerto Rican/ New York style salsa roots, I was looking forward on the way to this concert, to hearing and seeing a live performance of Issac Delgado`s Mujer que mas te duele, one of the tracks on his first U.S. released CD, En Primera Plana( La Calle Records, May 2007.) It`s a fine tune- a cathy duet with salsa great Victor Manuelle- and has been getting a lot of play on the local radio stations.

Little did I know, that by the end of the evening, it wouldn`t even matter to me that Issac did not perform this song last night. I was too busy enjoying every moment of his Timba!

It was a triumphant night for the former lead singer from NG La Banda. Issac, after years of much success and popularity in his native Cuba, and in Europe( and up to now, marginally in the U.S.), quietly defected this past year."

The Knight Center was packed solid, but there were pleanty of empty seats- their occupants were all standing, dancing, singing, wawing their arms, and cheering Issac on, with every song Issac chose to sing.

He chose them well. Let me explain: Thanks to the definitive salsa- hit maker, producer Sergio George, En Primera Plana is already on it`s way to becoming another possible Grammy nomination for Delgado. It was, of course, a wise decision to cater to mass appeal by including some great songs( and some great names), in the traditional salsa style in this cd.

But the heart of Issac Delgado is Timba, and Timba was mostly what he performed.

Kind of a really cool bait and switch scheme- sell them salsa, but give them timba live!

And it is surely through his live performances, that Issac will win over the hard-core salsa public to include and support this genre more than ever before.

He´s just so good at at it. Issac has such a way with the audience. He`s gracious, personal and inviting. Last night he easily acquired nearly 4500 more back-up singers, as he invited fans to join in. They didn`t need much encouraging- they sang loudly, clearly, in tune and on clave, to every timba selection. It was quite amazing to experience this sea of people moving and singing in unison with Issac.

To my surprise, during some of the digressions from timba- ballads interspersed with( sometimes too long) commentary, I found myself counting the minutes to the next timba song. Obviously, so was the rest of the audience, because, without fail, it was the driving timba rythms and infectious lyrics that kept the place really jumping.

Last night, Issac Delgado took Miami, and me, by storm."

Klimax i Danmark

Klimax som er ei av mine favorittgrupper var nyleg på ein liten turne i Europa. Følgande rapport er frå Dj Salsani juli -07:

" Super fantastisk koncert med cubanske Klimax. Tak skal du have. Hvilket brag av en koncert. Total energiutladning midt i Horsens. Det er længe siden at jeg har set og oplevet så godt en koncert. Mine fødder stod simpelthen ikke stille i den 2 1/2 time den varede. Jeg havde ellers ikke de store forventninger til Klimax. Havde hørt deres sidste album fra 2004, Nadie se parece a ti, og jeg følte ikke at det kunne blive den vilde koncert. Manden bag Klimax Giraldo Piloto er en af de helt store profiler i cubansk musik- han var medstifter av det efterhånden legendariske NG La Banda hvori f. eks. Issac Delgado og mange andre cubanske musikere har startet deres musikalske karriere i. Giraldo Piloto har skrevet hits til både Charanga Habanera og været musikalsk leder for førnævnte Issac Delgado. Jeg indrømmer at bandet aldrig har sagt mig det helt store og jeg spiller sjældent Klimax ude på salsatekerne. Men det skal der nok laves om på.
Ja jeg vover pelsen og siger at denne koncert var årets koncert og også de forgangene års. Koncerten startede ellers med en katastrofe af lyd hvor hele lydbilledet var ude af balance. Men det blev rettet op på hen ad vejen- men lydbilledet blev aldrig helt optimalt. Men jo længere vi kom i koncerten, jo mindre betød det- for de 3 frontfigurer gjorde deres arbejde perfekt.Glad og oplagt band der sparkede R.. Giraldo Piloto gav trommerne en ordentlig gang tæv og sprang også selv rundt på scenen i vilde danse sammen med de 3 knægte der vel nok vidste hvordan man skulle få pigerne til at hvine... Chippendales Go Home:-) Der var gamle velkendte numre som Oye Como Va og bandet sluttede af med 2 superfede reggaetonnumre af Daddy Yankee. 10 stjerner til Klimax. Glæder mig til at gruppen forhåbentlig snart udgiver en ny cd."

About Us!

We are two friends that want to share our strong passion for contemporary Cuban salsa music. In september 2006 we arranged a party called Timba Night; at the club Macumba in Bergen, we played non-stop Cuban salsa music from 20.00 till 23.00. The response was great, and we soon decided to make it a permanent concept, arranging it the first tuesday every month. In January 2007 we also, in co-operation with http://www.ilovesalsacubana.com/, arranged a huge Cuban salsa party: Fiesta Cubana. This party attracted as much as 239 guests, that enjoyed dancing to cuban salsa and timba exclusively all the night, after an intro-course. The great success of this party has lead to that we are going to arrange Fiesta Cubana twice this season: the first party is on September 29 with DJ Mojito, Oslo as co/guest-DJ, and the other one is February 2 with co/guest-DJ Flaca and guest instructur Geldys Morales/Cuba.

We have a huge CD-collection, which includes almost all Cuban salsa recordings from 1990 till today. We also buy every new Cuban salsa recording as soon as they get on the market.
We play not only the brand new stuff, but also "older" (15-1 years old...) and not-so-common tunes that we think deserve being played again. Even though we both love Cuban salsa music, we have different favourites and preferences, and therefore we think we give our audiences the best mix when we both play during a night. And we also support each other during the party preparations.


Why do we love cuban salsa music? The deep grooves, the great handcraft of the musicians, the power and energy, the great variety, the complex rhythms, the great singers... Cuban salsa music has a spirit like no others, and it is definately the most fun to dance and listen to! We want to share this passion with, and promote cuban salsa music to, as many as people possible, both dancers and others. Some of our favourites are Los Van Van, Pupy, Manolito, Manolín, Maikel Blanco, Klimax, Bamboleo, Pachito Alonso, Azucar Negra, Elito Revé, Samá y el Expreso, Paulito, Michel Maza, Calle Real, Charanga Habanera, Tiempo Libre, Angel Bonne and a lot more!

Kubansk helg i Bergen 2- 3. februar 2008 med Geldys Morales

2-3. februar 2008 vil Timba Night og ilovesalsacubana arrangere kubansk helg i Bergen.

Geldys Morales vil undervise i cuban body movements, son og rumba.
Ho er hovedinstruktør for salsanor i Stavanger. Ho underviser også for danseglede i Oslo, var instruktør på kubansk helg i august og er invitert til Hot Salsa Weekend.

I samband med kurshelga vert det Fiesta Cubana lørdag 2. februar.
Dj Flaca& Dj Fuerza og Dj Charanga mikser kubansk son, cha cha cha, mambo, salsa og timba.

Timbanight

Timbanight er eit månadleg konsept der me vil presentere den musikken me elskar, nemleg kubansk salsa- og timbamusikk.
Konseptet vart starta i september 2006 av Eirik A. Storebø( Dj Charanga) og Håvard Svendsen( Dj Fuerza), og er eit samarbeid mellom oss og Macumba Social Club.


Me vil også arrangere kubanske festar under tittelen Fiesta Cubana. Den første av desse festane samla 239 dansarar
lørdag 27. januar 2007.
